Suit alterations in Cannes: what our workshop takes on

People often call us for “a small alteration”. Our Cannes workshop is made for something else: recutting a shoulder, lifting a sleeve head, taking in a jacket, re-tapering a complete suit. Including garments that were not bought from us. Here is how it works.

An alterations workshop on site, boulevard Carnot

At Moret & Co, the workshop is inside the boutique. It adjusts our bespoke suits between fittings; it also takes in our clients’ garments when their figure changes, or when a suit, even one bought elsewhere, does not hang as it should. The person who receives you is the same one who will follow the alteration through to the end: we look at the garment on you, we pin, we decide together.

The alterations we take on

The delicate alterations, the ones that really change a garment:

  • Sleeves : length taken up from the shoulder when the buttonholes rule out the cuff, sleeve head lifted when it creases, ease adjusted.
  • The shoulder : shoulder recut or narrowed, when the jacket floats or sits too low.
  • The waist : jacket taken in at the back and sides, to follow the waist without pulling.
  • Re-tapering a complete suit : jacket and trousers brought back to your figure as it is today, after weight loss for example.
  • Trousers : waist taken in or let out, leg tapered, seat and rise.
  • Moret & Co suits, followed over time: if your figure changes, your suit follows.

Small-scale making

The workshop also makes simple pieces to order: pocket squares matched to a lining, bow ties in the cloth of your choice, ribbons, accessories. It is often the finishing touch of a wedding: the groom’s pocket square and those of his groomsmen, cut from the same cloth.

Prices and lead times: on quotation, garment in hand

Two “sleeve alterations” do not involve the same work, depending on how the jacket is built: the quotation is therefore made with the garment in hand, on you, and the lead time depends on the workshop’s workload at the time. A first contact by phone or through the form is enough to set an appointment.

Alteration or bespoke?

An alteration quotation is sometimes the occasion for a frank conversation: some garments are not worth the work they require, and in that case we say so. For those discovering the boutique on this occasion, the discovery appointment shows what a suit cut on your own pattern changes: from €700, the price of a ready-to-wear suit.
